The web betting business in the UK has doubled in five years, with in excess of one million gamblers commonly betting over the internet. According to research conducted by the Dept. of Culture, Media and Sport, British gamblers make up about one-third of the Old World’s estimated total of three point three million net gamblers.

The typical sum bet by each bettor is estimated at one thousand pounds, with the European industry now valued at £3.5bn each year.

Among the 70 net gambling web sites in the UK, none are gaming web sites advertising casino card games such as poker and blackjack. A better part of the world’s 2,000 online betting sites are based in locations with dubious internet gambling rules. Antigua and Costa Rica account for more than 1,000 sites between them.

The Gov’t in the UK is looking to introduce rules and a tax system to control the operating of the net gambling industry. With such laws in place, online wagering activities would be observed and the industry will achieve even greater penetration in the near future.
